Recent Things: A Call Out, Exhibitions, Etc
I know that on a Friday they'd usually be something slightly more interesting than my words, but these 60 hour weeks have finally caught up with me. A combination of Southern Rail being shit and the need for sleep has meant that seeing art, seeing shows has been put on the back burner.
What I am going to post about, is that I am starting to be brave again.
Although I haven't had that much time to see exhibitions, I did see an offering from Shmallery. The space was interesting and the manifesto behind Shmallery is something I can get behind, the idea of 'pop-up' exhibitions is something still very much on trend. The focus on Urban Artists is almost an ironic one, as so many artists working on the street get much more exposure than those working at home. The nature of 'Urban Art' and working on walls lends itself not just being viewed by the masses but also discussions around the transient nature of all artworks. The show featured artists like Drew Copus, who has done his own pop-up shows (Urban Paradise One, Two and Three) and Ben Eine.
I've heard some good things, too, about the latest show at Hastings Art Forum which I'm going to try to get to. It's one of the closest galleries to me and has adapted and changed slightly to not just offer a program of exhibitions but to improve the standard of work, and although sometimes people don't always realise it, if the standard of work normally shown is good, it means your artwork is good too.
Polly from The Forest Mermaid retweeted an old post that partly I had forgotten all about from March 2016. The one thing that I was reminded about was that once I wanted to collect pictures (submitted and my own) of where people create. I know I stumbled across a website that had this, (not The Selby) which I can't find again. What I am doing though is opening it up again, for 2017. So please, if you're up for this, get emailing me and sharing.
Also in the 2017 news is that I will finally be taking the step to publish a zine that I've been talking about for years, and creating postcards of some of my #The100DayProject. There might be some other things happening too, but I need to think and step very carefully on that. (Also means that 100% they won't happen, BUT NEVERMIND ME).
Annnnd finally. If you follow me on instagram you'll notice I'm back monoprinting again, and I am happy, so so happy with them (even if they aren't that good).
