Favourite - Ramon Maiden

I can't remember exactly how I stumbled across Ramon Maiden, I want to say it was on tumblr, but I can't be sure. All I know is I saved this image immediately as I fell in love with it. It wasn't until I took the image into my tattooists that I found out who the creator was.

Since then I feel like I've stared at his work for days, making my eyes bleed with the dark beauty encapsulated within each of his drawings and interventions. It's the juxtaposition of old and new colliding that attracts me so. The intricate patterns that I know, 100%, I'd never have the patience for. Ramon Maiden creates works that speak to my soul, about re-using and recycling.

Each image reminds me music, music that fifteen year old Erin loved (Marilyn Manson, Pitchshifter, Slipknot). Each image feels like it has a story buried deep and dark within.

Split between Barcelona and NYC, his work speaks of tattoo culture, of embracing heaven and hell, of religion and the imagery associated with that.

My style is very characteristic and people are usually identified quickly. I try not only cause visual impact and also convey a message, idea, purpose.I perceive the tattoo as a form of artistic expression. Many of the artists I follow not only deal with tattoos, but they are also very good at other types of art. Lola Garcia, Dr. Lakra, Annie Frenzel, Sebastian Domasche, Matthias Boechtter or Amina Charai are excellent tattooists, great artists and friends.

The Dandy Delinquent

Ramon Maiden has a unique style and feel to everything he does, and if anyone ever buys me a print of one of his pieces, I'll basically love you forever and ever because that's how awesome I think he is.
